Roadworks in Hawkhurst
The A229 (northbound/southbound) will be subject to complete closures at the main Hawkhurst crossroads, initially on the north side of the main junction (towards Cranbrook) from 31st March for approximately a month, and then on the south side of the junction (towards Hastings) for a further month. Some sources are quoting 6 weeks for each “leg” of the operation!
East-west access to Hawkhurst via the A268 (from the Flimwell/A21 direction and from Tenterden/Rye) will remain open at all times, but will only be a single lane of traffic and subject to a 3-way traffic light. This is expected to cause significant queues in all directions, and throw traffic onto local diversions around the village, which will be congested.
In light of the inevitable disruption cause by these roadworks, please allow plenty of extra time to get to any appointments you have with us, possibly up to half an hour extra depending on weight of traffic.
Our road (Northgrove Road) will be open throughout the roadworks (including the public car park), and Waitrose and Tesco carparks will be operating normally. As far as we know, pedestrian access through the village will not be affected.
